Vintage Tractors
This year’s vintage tractor parade at Slaley Show is organised by Reg Wilkinson. Reg is the Secretary of the Northern Counties Ploughing Association and he will also be bringing some of his own collection of fully restored vintage tractors that he uses to compete at ploughing competitions. “Ploughing is actually my main interest” he says but he appreciates how young curious minds are fascinated by the, once considered, ‘miracle’ of mechanical driven machines to replace horses. These not so little pieces of farming and social history will be first exhibited on the showground and then ‘paraded’ in the main ring where the individual owners will be interviewed by our compere Lewis Short. Amongst Reg’s collection there’s a particular tractor that is something of a rarity; it’s a Ford Golden Jubilee model imported from Canada which was produced to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Ford Motor Company way back in 1952. What a beauty!
